Lukasz Frant

Cellist - soloist and chamber musician, in 2004 he became the youngest concertmaster and leader of the cellos of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

A graduate of the Academy of Music. K. Szymanowski in Katowice and Scuola Internazionale Di Musica da Camera del Trio di Trieste in Italy.

​Four-time scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and Art, scholarship holder of the Mayor of the City of Katowice, Hugo Kołłątaj Foundation, Yamaha Foundation, Lions Club and the program of the National Center for Culture "Young Poland". Laureate of many cello competitions, including: 1st prize in the 1st Competition for cello solo them. Drohomirecki" in Katowice 2004, 2nd prize in the D. Danczowski in Poznań (2003), distinctions and prizes for the best Polish participant at the International Competition. W. Lutosławski in Warsaw (2005). Winner of the 'Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe' scholarship competition in Łódź (2004).

 

His repertoire includes most works of classical cello literature, as well as the latest music of the 20th and 21st centuries, which occupies an important place in his artistic activity.

He has performed at many festivals of contemporary music, e.g. Festival of Premieres in Katowice, Silesian Days of Contemporary Music, Poznań Music Spring, Intersonanzen Festival in Potsdam, Unerhorte Musik in Berlin, Festival "New Waves" in Gdańsk, during which he premiered works by many Polish and foreign composers.

As a soloist, he performed with many symphony orchestras in Poland, collaborating with such conductors as: Krzysztof Penderecki, Antonello Manacorda, Robin O'Neill, Alexander Liebreich and others. performing, among others concertos by Dvorak, Elgar, Haydn, Schumann, Tchaikovsky's Rococo variations, Beethoven's triple concerto and Penderecki's Concerto Grosso.

He regularly gives concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in Poland and abroad.

Łukasz Frant is active in the field of chamber music, collaborating with the pianist and private wife - Joanna Galon-Frant and the violinist Anna Szabelka in the AdAstra Piano Trio and with his wife in the duo Frant Duo and in the Metropolis Piano Quartet with Sulamita Slubowska and Dawid Jadamus.

 

As a chamber musician, he is the winner of the 1st prize in the '43' International Competition. L. van Beethoven” in Hradec, Czech Republic in 2004, laureate of the chamber music competition “Premio Trio di Trieste” in 2006 and finalist of the “Premio Gui” competition in Florence. He has performed at many festivals with bands

chamber music in Poland and Europe.

 

In 2017, CD Accord released the album of the AdAstra Piano Trio "Episodi" with works by contemporary composers: Peteris Vasks, Rodion Shchedrin, Paul Schoenfield and Henry Cowell. The album was appreciated by composer Peteris Vasks, who, on the band's initiative, was invited to NOSPR for a festival dedicated to his work.

In 2021, another AdAstra Piano Trio album was released, entirely dedicated to the work of Alfred Sznitke (including Sonata No. 1 for cello and piano). The album received the Supersonic award from Pizzicato magazine.
